Religious opinion on permeable varnish:
Question asked to Sheikh Salih Ibn Sa'ad As-Souhaimy - الشيخ صالح بن سعد السحيمي
A woman asks:
Is it permissible to use varnish that does not prevent water from entering and touching the skin?
Response from the Sheikh:
From what I know of varnish is that it prevents water from touching the skin.
If this is the case, the person must first remove this varnish before they can perform ablution.
I do not know of any makeup that does this (does not prevent water from touching the skin), if there is not a layer between the nail and the water, at that time it is prohibited.
But if this varnish really allows the water to touch the nail, then it is allowed to do your ablution with this kind of makeup.
